Is Water Fasting Unhealthy?

A USC-led study says that fasting triggers stem cell regeneration of a damaged, old immune system. A water fast can be a great way to allow the digestive organs (stomach, small intestine, colon, etc.) of the body to rest. Many of us were taught that we need to eat several times per day in order to speed up our metabolism and maintain health. This isn’t so. When the digestive organs are constantly having to digest foods, especially incompatible foods (animal proteins, processed foods, cooked starches, etc.) they begin to wear and break down prematurely.

During a fast, food no longer enters. This enables the digestive system to rest and allows the brain to increase blood flow to other areas of the body and conduct repairs. This increase in blood flow also carries more oxygen. This oxygen is used by the body to remove toxins.

The first two days can be mentally-challenging during a water fast. Especially, when you’re used to eating on a regular schedule. By day three, the legs feel a lot heavier and fatigue sets in. Haha! You’ll have to switch gears and slow down a bit with physical activity. On the flip side, the ability to focus becomes much easier. I only perform fasts when I feel my body absolutely asks for it. This one was much needed. It’s more than worth the results. Alkaline water with electrolytes work well to help the body flush and perform its maintenance. Break fast with juicy melons. They’re fruits that are easy to digest. Feeling recharged and ready for the summer with an improved immune system!
