Master Your Body Before Lifting Weights

Many people think strength training means hitting the gym and lifting heavy. But research confirms that bodyweight exercises like push-ups, lunges, and dips can build just as much strength when done correctly. The key? Training to near failure, no matter the method.

Before reaching for weights, it's crucial to first master your own body. In today’s world, where most people are overweight or obese, skipping this step can lead to poor movement patterns, imbalances, and injury. I stress this with my clients: Strength, mobility, balance, and functionality should be the priority, especially for longevity and injury prevention.

I've seen too many gym-goers focus on exercises that have little carryover to daily life. Unless you're a bodybuilder or in a profession where aesthetics are everything, functional strength should come first. Strength training should help you move better, reduce injury risk, and maintain independence as you age.
