When I was growing up, drinking alcohol was seen as a normal part of adulthood. A glass of wine or a beer at the dinner table wasn’t just accepted, it was expected. Phrases like "drink in moderation" or "drink responsibly" were everywhere, from TV ads to radio commercials.

But science has caught up with tradition. The latest research confirms that no amount of alcohol is health-promoting. Even moderate drinking, previously believed to have heart benefits, has now been linked to:

  • Increased cancer risk (including breast, liver, and throat cancer)

  • Chronic inflammation, which accelerates aging and disease

  • Disruptions in gut health and hormone balance

  • Higher risks of accidents and injuries

While some people may not feel the immediate effects, health statistics show that fewer and fewer people are maintaining good health as they age. The reality is clear, alcohol does not support longevity or healthspan. So what can you do?

If you drink regularly, consider reducing your intake or eliminating alcohol altogether. Focus on lifestyle habits that actually promote longevity: whole, nutrient-dense foods, regular movement, and stress management.
